On September 16, 2026, HubSpot launched what it calls the first CRM integration with ChatGPT Ads. You can now build, publish and measure ChatGPT campaigns in the same Ads tool you use for Google, Facebook and LinkedIn, and tie the results to contacts and deals. If you're a B2B company or a high-ticket service business already on HubSpot, a small test with tight measurement makes sense. If your buyers don't research in ChatGPT, or you're in a health category, we'd wait.
As a HubSpot partner that also manages paid media, we've had a lot of "should we be on ChatGPT?" conversations this fall. Most of them start with excitement about a new channel. The useful ones end with a plan to measure it properly. This integration makes that measuring a lot easier, which is the main reason it's worth paying attention to.
What changed with ChatGPT Ads in September
Several things landed at once. TechRepublic's September 18 report rounded up OpenAI's announcements:
- Sponsored Agents, being tested with select U.S. advertisers, let a ChatGPT user click an ad and chat with an agent built for that brand. OpenAI told TechRepublic these agents don't handle purchases.
- Ad creation in plain language inside OpenAI's Ads Manager, along with AI text customization that adjusts your copy to fit the conversation.
- HubSpot and Shopify integrations, OpenAI's first CRM and e-commerce partners.
TechRepublic also reported that OpenAI's ad business reached a $1 billion annualized revenue run rate within 200 days of launch, with "tens of thousands" of brands advertising in the U.S. and EMEA. That's fast. It also means the channel is getting more crowded every month, which is the same pattern we saw with Google and Facebook in their early years.
What the HubSpot integration actually does
HubSpot has two setup guides, one for connecting a ChatGPT Ads account and one for creating ChatGPT Ads campaigns. Here's what matters in practice:
- It's a beta. A HubSpot Super Admin has to opt your account in.
- OpenAI has to approve the connection. During the beta, only a ChatGPT Tenant Admin in your company can approve HubSpot's access. You also need an active ChatGPT Ads account with an API key, though you can create a new ad account from inside HubSpot.
- The ad unit is a "ChatGPT Chat Card." You choose an objective (impressions, clicks or conversions) and add a headline, body copy, an image and a landing page.
- Targeting runs on context, not keywords. You write "context hints" describing the topics or conversations where your service fits, then pick platforms (iOS, Android, web), locations to include or exclude, and HubSpot audiences.
- HubSpot's setup uses CPM pricing. Its guide describes fixed cost-per-thousand-impressions pricing and asks for a maximum CPM bid.
- Reporting sits next to your other ad networks. Campaign, ad group and ad data show in the Manage and Analyze tabs. With auto-tracking on, HubSpot adds UTM parameters so you can see which contacts clicked.
- Ad engagement can start a workflow. Contacts who interact with a ChatGPT ad can be enrolled in HubSpot workflows for follow-up.
HubSpot and OpenAI also ran an "AI Growth Bundle" with a $750 match on ChatGPT Ads spend for new accounts opened by September 30. That offer has ended.
Who actually sees ChatGPT ads
According to OpenAI's ads help article, ads show to logged-in adults on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users don't see them. OpenAI says it doesn't show ads to accounts it identifies as under 18, and it keeps ads away from sensitive or regulated topics such as personal health, mental health and politics. Advertisers never see anyone's chats, only aggregate results.
That last rule matters for our medical clients. A plastic surgery practice may find that most of the conversations it would want to show up in are exactly the ones OpenAI keeps ads out of. Check before you set a budget.
Search ads are written to win a click on a results page. Social ads are written to stop a scroll. Neither reads well inside a conversation. On our ChatGPT advertising accounts, shorter and more helpful copy wins.
Should you test ChatGPT ads?
This is how we sort businesses during a ChatGPT advertising feasibility review.
B2B companies on HubSpot: strong candidate
Your buyers already ask ChatGPT to compare vendors and explain their options. You have deal stages in HubSpot, so you can judge the test on pipeline instead of clicks. This is the easiest fit we see.
High-ticket home services: worth a small test
Think basement waterproofing, whole-home HVAC replacement, irrigation installs or remodels. These are researched decisions, and homeowners ask long, specific questions. HubSpot's location targeting lets you keep a test inside your service area. Emergency, lower-ticket work like a clogged drain still belongs on Google Search and Local Services Ads. Our home services marketing clients start there.
Real estate and auto: depends on the offer
Buyers in both research by conversation. You need a specific offer and a landing page built for someone who just finished a chat, not a generic homepage.
Plastic surgery and medical: wait and check
Given OpenAI's limits on sensitive topics, confirm which conversations are eligible before spending anything.
A signal worth watching
Invoca's 2026 home services benchmark found that calls referred by ChatGPT had the highest phone lead rate of any channel, at 45%. Invoca also notes the number of those calls is still very small. And that's organic referral traffic, not paid ads. Still, it suggests people who arrive from ChatGPT tend to know what they want.
It fits what we found in the first randomized study of AI Overviews. Research is moving into AI tools, and the clicks that remain carry more intent. If you're weighing paid options in AI search more broadly, our post on ads in Google AI Mode covers the Google side.
How we'd set up a fair test
- One offer, one audience. One service, one region, one landing page.
- A budget you can afford to learn with. OpenAI's pricing and minimums have been changing quickly, so we confirm current numbers before recommending a figure.
- New creative written for conversation. Short, specific, useful.
- HubSpot auto-tracking on, with a report that runs from ad click to contact to deal. If your CRM data is messy, a HubSpot audit or CRM cleanup should come first, or the test can't be judged.
- GA4 alongside it. Since May 2026, Google Analytics puts ChatGPT and similar referrers into an AI Assistant channel. Watch it next to the paid numbers.
- 60 to 90 days, judged on qualified pipeline and closed revenue, not impressions.
We run ChatGPT Ads the way we run Google and Meta: a measured line item with clear goals, inside the same revenue operations mindset we bring to every channel. As a HubSpot partner, we can set up the connection, the attribution and the follow-up workflows in one pass. If you already connected HubSpot to Google, the logic is the same as our guide to closing the loop between ad clicks and qualified leads.

Frequently asked questions
Can I run ChatGPT ads from HubSpot?
Yes. Since September 2026, HubSpot's Ads tool can connect a ChatGPT Ads account and create, publish and report on ChatGPT Chat Card campaigns. It's in beta, and a Super Admin has to opt the account in.
How much do ChatGPT ads cost?
HubSpot's setup guide says ChatGPT Ads uses CPM pricing with a maximum CPM bid you set. Budgets and minimums have been changing as OpenAI expands the platform, so confirm current numbers before launching.
Who sees ads in ChatGPT?
Logged-in adult users on the Free and Go plans. Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users don't see ads, and OpenAI keeps ads away from sensitive topics like health and politics.
Do I need HubSpot to advertise on ChatGPT?
No. You can run campaigns through OpenAI's own Ads Manager. The HubSpot integration helps when you want ChatGPT results tied to your CRM contacts and deals.
Are ChatGPT ads good for local businesses?
They can work for researched, high-ticket local services where customers ask detailed questions. For urgent, low-ticket jobs, Google Search and Local Services Ads are usually the better first dollar.
